Parks Gateway Island Park 5531 North Country Village of Philadelphia Gateway Island Park The Village will construct Gateway Island Park. A pedestrian bridge replaced the old road and currently provides a walkable connection between Route 11, Main Street, and a series of footpaths and planned trails. In many ways the re-construction of Route 11 has led to the decline of Village's historic Main Street. Unfortunately, re-routing of Route 11, and the current lack of an eye catching gateway, has left the Village Main Street virtually unnoticeable. Potential customers travel past the Village Main Street daily to seek services in other communities. The Gateway Island Park is a component of a multi-phased project that will ultimately connect pedestrians to surrounding areas, and will spur economic revitalization on Main Street. The project focus is on improvements to the small island in the Indian River - an undeveloped platform of rocks and brush, an eyesore leftover from the original Route 11 construction. The Village of Philadelphia is proposing to develop this island into the Gateway Island Park. As it passes above the river, the existing pedestrian bridge will receive safety improvements as well as be revamped to include an accessible overlook area and a stairway on to the island. $351,000.00 Monday, September 10, 2012 - 20:00 Saturday, April 30, 2016 - 20:00
